Have you wished Ang Suu Kyi on her 64th birthday? You can do so at http://www.64forsuu.org/. She is frequently called Daw Aung San Suu Kyi; Daw is not part of her name, but an honorific similar to madam for older, revered women, literally meaning "aunt".[7] Strictly speaking, her given name is equivalent to her full name, but it is acceptable to refer to her as "Ms. Suu Kyi" or Dr. Suu Kyi, since those syllables serve to distinguish her from her father, General Aung San, who is considered to be the father of modern-day Burma.

This is the third terrorist attack this year in India- Jaipur, Bangalore and now Mumbai. Some people are frightened of democracy and the responsibility one needs to take with freedom. They would much rather live in the dark ages with no other prayer but violence. Its a shame on humankind. The demand of the hour is unity inspite of the collateral damage. I deeply condemn this abhorrent behaviour and wish the world leaders to actually take a stand and move towards global leadership and citizenship and actually come down strongly on the terrorists. After all we do know who they are. Would it be difficult to collectively eliminate these forces once and for all? Are there two ways to this stand?

vinayakachavithi08 Last year I wrote a very detailed post on Vinayaka Chavithi. This year all of us went to the Omaha Ganesha Temple. The crowd was not heavy, and the rituals not as grand as I thought it would be, which was a disappointment. A enthusiastic devotee shoved hymn copies of "Om Jai Jagdish" in Hindi. Most of the crowd knew the tune, but didnt know the lyrics, and generally hummed along [Clear indication of south indian crowd]. The said same lady, later on belted out "Gajana Nayutam" in carnatic style, which was good.

bharatmata Today is Independence Day for India. A pakistani flag is being flown in Kashmir, one day before our independence day and we exult in Abhinav Bindra's gold medal at the Beijing Olympics. One of my favorite blogger Krish Ashok- Doing Jalsa and showing Jilpa has rightly commented about the sportiveness of it all. He has rightfully focused on the marks obsessive education malaise that is at the root of most urban stagnance in India.

Now the patterns are more or less set, and we are at a pleasant interlude. We even visited Chicago last weekend and managed to catch Devi Sri Prasad's concert as well. More on that later, obviously..

Andre Miti Jessie

Last friday, I got a "Mom Andre's mom wants to come home, and she will follow your car" when I went to pick up Miti from school. So I waved and proceeded home with Miti. On the way he gently told me that the plan was to go to Andre's mom's house on the weekend and be back on Saturday morning.

Andre is Mitis best friend from school, and the boys are entirely inseparable. All through the evening I could see Andre beam ear to ear. He was flushed pink with excitement, and Miti too. Having 3 boys in the house did feel different as we girls got attacked by foam bullets constantly.. We were caught in the crossfire of a nerf gun war, till the boys left! So when we reached home, I socialized with Andre's mom and after a little bit of playing and visiting, Miti managed to pack a weekend bag. After guzzling milk, the boys proceeded to the farm which was a 45 minute drive from Omaha. The whole experience felt a little strange to me, ...

Sometime during my MA years at Hyderabad, India my classmate Dhanalakshmi and I went to see a telugu movie called "Bava Bava Paneeru". We landed very early for the movie, and actually got seat numbers 1 & 2, which for me is the rarest of rare events, ever. So we had time to kill and landed at a shop called Iyengar's bakery opposite the theatre and ordered some baked goodies, wolfed it down and came back.
