All about Qumana - 1

I have been trying to get my hands on an offline blog editor/ poster.  I tried using Flock’s built in editor, but did not like the feel of the option itself.  After some internet search, I came across Qumana

The setup was fairly easy.  It found my blog easily, took my login and password, and even accessed the Chilligavva site quickly.  Then it said it needed some time to synchronize.  I was under the impression, that it would pull all my posts to my local m/c.  Now I have less than 100 posts and a cable broadband connection.  20 minutes later...still nothing

I next went back to the Qumana site, and posted my experience on their support site.  As the product is in beta, I hope the people out there are listening.  An hour later, I opened task manager, forced an abend, and rebooted. [Aaah.. the wonderful windows fix, the reboot…CTRL +ALT +DEL never looked so sweet..]

During my install process, I noticed the JRE environement being invoked, and a quick mental note to myself ensued…

AHA, its in Java, so it will be unholily slow.. Now I have nothing against Java, but the right click community end up writing such thick clients that this kind of apprehension is usually present in my mind, whenever  I see anything developed in Java.  I like the portability factor, but I guess this is the price to be paid..

A quick feature cap that I find interesting… Get the complete features here.

  1. It was able to pull all my categories without heirarchy relationships [Thats okay though]
  2. It allows me to save article locally, publish the same article to several blogs.
  3. Allows editing of articles too..
  4. Supports allow comments, trackbacks etc.
  5. For the price, I like it so far.. [Its free!]
  6. Based on the url address in the clipboard, it suggests that particular URL, when you create a link in the editor.. [Really neat!]

I shall write some more about this, a month from now.. To be fair, I do not like to comment on products without exploring them in depth. This sensitivity is there because I started my career documenting a product and do appreciate all the hard work behind it.

I like this product, mainly because of its positioning.  This kind of tool is very much needed and it definetely fulfils a niche position  in the blogging community.

Update:  I have edited this post, added an image, and published atleast three times after corrections, and absolutely love it!  I would request, all CG readers to give this tool a shot.  Its really nice..
